3 ON 3 BASKETBALL RULES
SATURDAY, AUGUST 20TH
1. Each team must have (4) players on their roster and registered with their team by the pre-determined entry deadline. Additions and/or changed of rosters will not be allowed under any circumstances after the entry deadline.
2. All games start with (3) players on each team. Any number may complete the game.
3. Each team is allowed (2) forty-five second time outs. These stop play, but the 30 minute time clock continues to run, with the exception of the last (3) minutes of the game. Timeouts in the last (3) stop the clock. In case of an obvious injury, only a thirty second injury timeout will be allowed to substitute.
4. Substitution is unlimited, but allowed only when the ball is not in play, or after a made basket. The monitor should be told when a substitute is entering the game.
5. A five minute forfeit time will be strictly enforced.
6. Only the team captain is allowed to represent his or her team as spokesperson in case of appeals. Once play resumes after a disagreement, the problem is considered a dead issue. The court monitor has the authority to make decisions in case of disagreements. Any questions, complaints, or comments should be taken up with the court monitor in charge of your court.
7. Before games, both teams will warm up at the same time. The games will begin at five minutes past the hour or half hour. Games will be (30) points, win by (2) points, or (30) minutes, including the warm-up period. (Exception: The championship game in each division will have no time limit).
8. Scoring: (A) standard basketball rules will apply; (B) free throws count as (1); (C) baskets made from behind the three-point line will count as (3) points; (D) the shooter's feet must be clearly and completely behind the three-point line for the basket to count (3) points; (E) the court monitor will have final say if there is any questions.
9. The ball will change possession after scored baskets
10. The ball must be checked by opposing player before it is put in play.
11. A ball out-of-bound will be taken out at mid-court
12. The ball will be "taken back" on each change of possession. Failure to "take it back" will result in loss of possession and less of any points resulting from that possession.
13. "Taking back" means whole body behind "take back" line which is the three point line. Be sure that all the players understand this rule before each game.
14. Jump balls will be alternating possession after the coin toss.
15. Fouls: (A) flagrant or continual misconduct will result in forfeiture and dismissal from the tournament, (B) a flagrant and/or deliberate foul-as determined by the court monitor or supervisor, and solely at their discretion, will result in a free throw attempt by the team which was fouled. They will also retain possession of the ball; (C) the first time the court monitor calls a flagrant foul, a warning will be issued to that particular player and team. The second flagrant foul against any player will result in ejection of that player from the game; (D) all fouls will be called by players participating, unless officiated; (E) cooperation is expected; (F) fouls will be player out of bounds at "mid-court"; (G) when either team reaches 15 points, fouls will then be counted by the court monitor, after the fourth foul (beginning with the fifth foul (2) free throws will be attempted, whether the free throws were made or not, possessions; (H) if a player is fouled in the act of shooting and make the basket, the basket counts and the ball changes possession.
16. No dunking is allowed (warm-ups or games).
17. The supports of the goal will be played out-of-bounds.
18. The boundaries will vary slightly from court to court. If you are not certain where the precise boundaries in your court, check with the court monitor prior to be beginning of play.
19. Any fractions of regulations will result in loss of possession of the ball.
20. Possession at the beginning of the game will be decided by coin flip. If there is a dispute over a call during game that cannot be settled, the court monitor may resolve the problem with a coin flip for possession.
21. This is a double elimination tournament. If the winner of the loser's bracket beats the winner of the winner's bracket in the championship game, the two teams must play again and the winner will be division champion. The winner of the winner's bracket must lose twice (both champion games) for the winner of the loser's bracket to be champion.
22. We reserve the right to disqualify any team for infraction of the following policies: (A) use of illegal players; (B) false information; (C) unnecessary roughness; (D) abusive language. ONE MISHAP AND THE PERSON OR TEAM WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE TOURNAMENT AND GROUNDS!
